Hey! I'm Diana Silla

My practice mainly exists in Toronto with my access to studios and workspaces at OCAD. I explore themes of the aesthetic of food and primarily make art to escape the demand to dive into your deepest thoughts to make valid art. Using my creative practice to make stuff I relate to and enjoy making. Through school I have fallen in love with fabrication, stepping away from the paintbrush or sketchbook and making things with my hands. I take advantage of the wood and metal shops and make works that were at one point inaccessible for me to create. I also run my own business, hand sculpting jewelry and accessories for the masses to shop at a fair price to make supporting artists accessible. I use the aesthetic of food as a relatable subject that is recognizable and fun for me and the audience to view and start a conversation. Not necessarily making work with the intention of deep meaning, but striving for the conversations that the work brings up. I always believe that I'm very political and outspoken in my day-to-day life with people, that when I create art I want to escape that and create work that silences the thoughts that run through my mind. Some of the time the meaning gets subconsciously projected, but most of the time it is just a free vehicle to make work and bring joy to others through what I make.
